Feral Figure to Object

This studio project began as a search around Los Angeles for a “feral figure”, something that stood out as odd or did not match the character of the rest of the city. I chose to work with this stair and tower combo which I found attached to the side of a house. Creating a model that could only be read properly in axon, I reduced architectural element down to an object with no perceivable use, just form. I then analyzed this object and determined a set of rules in which it was derived.

Seeing as these rules generally worked in two dimensions, I wanted to apply these rules to a 3D figure to play them out further. The result was a complex object. At moments, the stair and aperture begin to hint at an architectural purpose, but the completeness of the object does not allow you to determine a single orientation or use.
