This project is the the result of my 5th year comprehensive studio which tasked us with designing a social justice center located in Leimert Park, Los Angeles. It was required for the structure to do a heavy timber/ CLT structure.
My project stresses public circulation and public space throughout the building, culminating in a large auditorium space on top. Throughout the building are several public spaces along the exterior circulation. The offices and research spaces are pushed towards the interior.-
Twisted aluminum panels signal the private program and align in an opened position for views and light. Channel glass highlights the public programming and what is accessible through exterior circulation.
Structurally, the building is organized on a 20’ x 20’ grid with a cantilever on the top floor for the auditorium. The egress core is located in the northwest most two bays. The exterior circulation cantilevers 5 feet from the structural columns.
